You know that episode of The Office where Jim takes the client out to play golf so he can pitch their paper products to him? I get annoying sales calls like that everyday at work (I’m in charge of all office supply orders for the office.) People jabber on about how good their prices are, and I have prove to them how their prices are in fact, not good. Every. Single. Day.
I joke around with my co-workers how I’m going to one day light the mail room on fire, especially when a salesperson calls on FedEx day (today) and takes a huge breath before they get into their long winded spiel about how I can get a free George Foreman grill if I order today! Buy right now! MINIMUM ORDERS ACCEPTED!
You know what I think? I think George Foreman grills SUCK!
But please, continue to send me your free pens in the mail. My favorite color is blue.

Have you ever had any of them hang up on you when you prove them wrong? I had the phone company that we use call trying to get us to sign up for an unlimited long distance plan, and I very patiently explained that we don’t use enough long distance for it to be worth it. So she hung up on me. Seems like that’s not the best way to treat a paying customer.

Ya gotta work it. I got cute magnets out of FedEx. I also get cool stuff from the Mutual Fund wholesalers…that might stop now though.

The job description for the person in charge of ordering office supplies does include getting prices from multiple sources, specifically because prices change. Your buying requirements may even change - in fact, it might someday even be worth paying a premium for a vendor who can deliver faster or return easier or whatever. In any case, you should be thankful that you are in position to be ‘annoyed’ by vendors because your employer pays you to handle this function.

I didn’t know it was troll season already… I guess it is year round.

5 bucks says he’s not only a troll, but probably a salesman. . . . .

Yes a salesman. Not a troll. I’m also a big fan of the Office although something seems off this season. I am not surprised when a buyer chooses a company other than mine, because most of our competitors are honorable and good. It puzzles me when I encounter a buyer who thinks that talking to a salesperson is outside his job description.

There’s a difference between talking to a salesperson and talking to someone who says, “Order today and get this free gift, so what can I mark you down for?”
If they don’t give me time to browse through their prices and are trying to force a sale on me, I don’t want to give them any of my time.

I yield. Carry on!
