Day one recap

June 21st, 2008 · 6 Comments

My mom and dad left earlier for Nashville last Wednesday (they were driving, everyone else was flying.) We were starting our vacation in Nashville because there was hotels close to the airport and it isn’t too far from Morgantown, KY (where my mom grew up, we were visiting Granny Romans.) Anyway, come Friday morning Tim and Chelsea picked me up for the airport at 7:30am. Let me tell you, don’t wake up before 7am on your first day of vacation, you’re drained the rest of the day. Anyway, we go to check in on those auto check in things for American Airlines… Tim and Chelsea checked in just fine, I apparently was marked as a terrorist and was told to go up to the counter to check in. I immediately began to think, “Well, apparently mom didn’t book my ticket, I’ll get a cab home.” Luckily I think the system was just having trouble handling six Boones traveling on the same plane that day.

We ate at the finest restaurant the DFW airport has to offer, McDonald’s, for breakfast. I had what they called a, “Sausage biscuit with egg.” I would instead call it, “Multiple trips to the bathroom for the rest of the day.”

We went to our gate and waited to board when Maci started getting fussy, so I figured I’d break out my camera and film some video, as you’ll see in the following, she’s more interested in seeing the pictures I’ve taken instead of doing what I say.

She has developed a special bond with Sam, I (her own UNCLE) can’t even pick up Maci, but she’ll let Sam hold while reading books. BULLSHIT. Maci always asks where Sam is whenever she sees me, and I always tell her she’s at home. At one point during the trip I asked Maci where we were going and she said, “Sammy’s house!” Cute little kid.

I slept most of the plane ride to Nashville, Maci didn’t act up to much, and the stewardess didn’t run into my leg with the drink cart 15 times like normal. Not a bad flight.

We didn’t do a whole lot in Nashville since we only had about six hours of actual free time. We ate at Jack’s BBQ. (Which was really kick ass. I recommend the ribs and the pork shoulder.) And walked around downtown doing a lot of people watching. I think one of my favorite parts of the trip was actually being able to hang out with my brothers and their wives for an extended period of time. Chelsea (Tim’s wife) had never really been around the Boone family for more than an hour or two at a time, I’m glad she got to experience the Boone brothers in our true element, lot’s of thick drawn out country accents, and continuing to act like we’re 14 years old. It’s kind of funny that Robert still tries to pester me after all these years… He doesn’t keep up with it as much though, since I am now bigger than him.

Mural

This is my favorite picture of Nashville, which reminded me of Austin a lot (just a lot more country.) There were a few more murals like this around town, I didn’t get a picture of them because we were driving when we saw the others.

I would recommend Downtown Nashville to anyone looking for a good BBQ place to eat and lots of live music up and down the block.

Or if you just need 3 pair of boots for 200 dollars…

    speaking of Austin…

you gonna ACTUALLY hang out with me next time you get your ass down here? or just give me a drive by motorboat when you head up IH 35, like always?

Maci looks exactly like Charlie Bucket in the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It’s funny to think that Kentucky is a place I will probably never in my life visit.

you know nashville is a cool town…the only problem with nashville is that it’s surrounded by tennessee.

same thing with austin…surrounded by texas.

i’ve spent a lot of time in nashville and lived in austin for 2 years…and now that i’m living back home in atlanta…same is true. atlanta is such a cool town…too bad it’s surrounded by georgia.
