I have no idea what I’m doing

Cooking with this

But I’m using this to cook with a roast, is this even a good wine?  I have no idea at all.  My dad got a wine gift set for Christmas, and obviously my parents don’t drink, so it’s been sitting in their bedroom.  I decided to break this particular bottle out and cook it with a roast, hopefully it turns out decent.

Um, yeah, its a pretty good wine….good in the sense you shouldn’t use it for cooking. Instead, drink it with your roast (but i’m sure this is too late). You should use cheap wine to cook with…like Sutter Home or something like that which you can pick up for $7-8 a bottle or less.

My parent’s do not allow drinking in the house. And this will only be used for cooking, no way around it.

    Also, it was free.

Just as guideline for those “new” to wine…anything that is $10 or more a bottle is considered “a premium wine” in the wine industry. My best friend works for one of the largest wine distributors in the country - he told me! ;) Enjoy!

OOooh, I’m sorry George! Didn’t realize the folks were around!

    Speaking of wine…

I’ve had lots of “good” wines, but in my opinion there are few that taste better than a good ol’ “Two Buck Chuch” Shiraz. Also known as “Charles Shaw” and sold at Trader Joe for 2 bucks a bottle.

Amazingly, it has won awards against much more expensive wines (google two buck chuck wikipedia).

Remove the label and tell your parents this wine has no alcohol. Hee Hee.

    “Two Buck Chuch”

That’s “Donny-ese” for Two Buck Chuck. The misspelling was intentional. No, really. :)

Two Buck Chuck does rock the house, if you happen to have a Trader Joe’s near where you live. I think it’s the only place that sells it.

BTW, according to Martha Stewart, one should only cook with a wine one would actually drink. And the wine you have is a tasty one, so it should be delightful with your roast. Hope it turns out marvelously! Give us an update after you’ve eaten…and share the recipe if it’s really yummy!

George are your parents Mormon? Or do they just not like drinking? And if so how come they received a wine gift, did the gifters not realize this when they bought it or was it a gag gift?

Basically, no matter what anyone told you, you were going to cook with it anyway, right?

I would’ve been more help to you had you not told me to eff myself. Gotta work on them manners, George!

You cannot go wrong with Rosenblum although they are known for their Zinfindels (the real stuff not that white crap). I usually would not cook with that type of grape but you should go ahead and give it a shot seeing as how no one will be drinking it.

Don’t waste that wine on freaking cooking! I’ll give you a cheap bottle to cook with. Give Tiffany and I all the wine buried in mom and dad’s bedroom!

ANY red wine is suitable for cooking. Provided of course it is yummy and then you will want to drink it.

Do not cook with wine that you would not drink. What are you, a caveman?
