My last musical list consisted of songs I wanted to dry hump BYU style too, this time it’s all about the bonerz. Pretty self explanatory. These are songs I have slow danced to/could see myself slow dancing to at a church dance. Or any type of dance for that matter. I even played a few that one time I dj’ed at the 80s dance for the singles ward.
13) Mr Big – To be With You: We used to bring a mix cd with this song on there every time we went to a church dance in high school. Yea, we were those kids.
12) Ginuwine – Differences: Have actually slowed danced to this with one of my previous girlfriends. She was 15. I was 17. Mormons.
11) Bush – Letting the Cables Sleep: I really just like this song. And it’s slow, so why not?
10) Death Cab for Cutie – Brothers on a Hotel Bed: Also played this one at the 80s dance. Even though it wasn’t from the 80s. Oh and the girl I danced with? We ended up dry humping BYU style. Two birds with one stone. This song is perfect for a church dance, due to the long intro, you can search out that hottie standing by herself.
9) Boyz II Men – Four Seasons of Lonliness: Surprisingly they played this at church dances even though it talks about skinny dipping.
8 ) Pete Yorn – Sleep Better: You could totally make a joke about sleeping alone tonight. Then judging by her reaction maybe you could get her phone number. Or her myspace address. You should really listen to Pete Yorn btw.
7) Sarah McLachlan – Angel: Another church dance staple. This one was usually the one where the weird girls would dance like a ballerina around the whole gym. And they wonder why more boys don’t ask them to dance… Besides her skirt being made of wheat.
6) Jimmy Eat World – Night Drive: This song will be included on every list that ever involves making out or bonerz. Seriously. Get used to it.
5) Foo Fighters – Times Like These (Acoustic w/ Piano): Nothing strikes the mood more than Dave Grohl growling over piano and acoustic guitar.
4) Ben Folds Five – Brick: I have no idea why but Mormons really love this song. My friend in high school used to talk about how it always reminded him of his ex girlfriend, in a good way. Uh… have you heard the lyrics? Still a good song to slow dance to, though.
3) Incubus - Echo: One of my favs by them. Have totally made out to this, reason why it wasn’t on my dry hump list. Kind of a makeout staple. At least four difference girls have fallen victim to Echo.
2) The Format – On Your Porch: This is a great song. Very sad though. Also very sad that this band just recently broke up because they are one of my favs. This CD will always make me think of Summer Jamz 2K4 when Eli, Nathan (roommates) and I would listen to “Interventions and Lullabies” at least once a day.
1) JT – Until the End of Time: I like my JT Beyonce free, please. This song just screams out slow dance chubby. Long intro. Lovey dovey lyrics. JT moaning in the background…
What?

Great list of songs. Slow dancing was always so awkward and amazing at the same time. I especially like numbers 13, 10, and 4.

mormons love songs about…abortion? what?
anyway, you should also totally pop a boner for “pony” by ginuwine instead of…whatever that other song is. once i saw it performed acapella, in a church. hilarious.
other notes:
letting the cables sleep = freaking awesome.
mr. big = i went to college with this kid who had a guitar and would play it on the lawn of our dorm sometimes [surprisingly, there were not more of these guys]. anyway, we always bugged him to play mr. big. AND HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF IT. fucking straight edge christians, what the hell.

So the mormons like Brick? Really? Maybe they should ya know listen to any interview by ben Folds and realize what its about.
And The Format is awesome. I love making out to Interventions and Lullabies. Possibly my favorite album ever. I live in phoenix and saw them all the time when they sucked… and let me tell you they did. And now they are all big and popular. Tune out the radio is about all our cruddy radio stations and begin stuck in the never ending traffic out of phoenix on the 51

God I must be old. I was an 80’s kid and I know NONE of those songs. Maybe I was just a nerd but I always liked stairway to heaven…

Wow, Mormons are cool! We Plymouth Brethren weren’t allowed to listen to anything but hymns and we most certainly didn’t have dances. We had youth group where maybe there was a guy with a guitar singing about God and good wholesome refreshments. Maybe the dances were a back handed plan of the Mormons to make you all reproduce a lot?

in my days at ricks, they would not play “loveshack” because of the line, “wearin’ next to nothin’ cuz it’s hot as an oven.”

brothers on a hotel bed!? are you kidding me? don’t get me wrong i like that song to, but it’s certainly not for dancing. when you think brothers on a hotel bed, you think, “awkward, why are mom and dad making me do this, can’t he just sleep on the floor?” or something along those lines. it’s not lovey-dovey, it’s very much the end of a relationship type of song, best used on a list of best breakup songs, or songs to use to break up with your girlfriend at a dance, actually that would mean that you were sleeping in the same bed, and then well you both would be going to hell, so in that case it would be a good “i want a divorce” song. of course all of this is base on whether or not the couple is mormon.
night drive - awesome. the first thing i did when i got that album was make out. how fitting.

Jami -I agree with you about Ben Folds (bitches ain’t shit? anyone?), you don’t understand, mormons don’t know the back story to most of what they listen to. i once got into an argument with a molly one day after she told me how she appreciate how “wholesome” the all american rejects are. then i asked her what they were talking about when they said “slip into you” in one of their songs - i can’t think of the title right now.
also at girls camp the song “King Erectus” had to be banned because it was inappropriate, but the girls singing it didn’t understand why.
Amanda // Feb 13, 2008 at 8:53 am
what i meant to say was that the molly was not very happy that i pointed that out to her. i’m so not focused.

Umm, amazing. #2 is one of my faves.
And I love ‘Brothers on a Hotel Bed.’ It especially reminds me of my old boss at the college newspaper, who randomly blurted out one day while we were working that it was our song. Strange, huh?
