Contrary to popular belief, having to drive 55 minutes to get to work is NOT fun.

George, George, calm down! If I had a 55-minute commute to work, I’d be happy - it takes me 2 hours to get to work. YES, 2 DAMN HOURS. 4 hours a freakin’ day travelling. On public transport, since I don’t drive (yet). And British public transport SUCKS ARSE - and costs me $600 a month.

My tip: put on some chill-out music, enjoy the drive to work and save your pity for me instead (LOL)

(how I know you: reader of Dooce)
Damn tootin about the 55 minute drive. Mine was over an hour with rush hour traffic in the Boston metro area. The kicker was that my hours were changed from later morning arrive time to 8:30 - when the rest of Boston is trying to get to work. That added 45-60 minutes of travel time to my 58 mile, almost all highway commute. I was NOT happy about this and begged them to let me come in later (or earlier, for that matter) and they refused saying that because of my position (Customer Support) I needed to be in during “core hours” - 9-5pm.

So I left there as soon as I could after that. Unfortunately, “as soon as I could” ended up being over a year until I found a suitable job with suitable pay.

    So I feel ya!
