Yes I cut my hair, all for the love of the game… or something.
The dance was actually a huge sucess, when people started to show up around 10:30. Apparently Standard Mormon Time for dances is an hour and a half later.
I only danced with one girl, who actually approached me randomly, had to have been the hair. She was pretty cool, a music major who goes to BYU.
ew.
We ended up playing our own list anyway. There is no way in hell I was going to listen to Boot Scooting Boogie and I don’t think I would have been able to keep from gouging my own eyes out if I had to watch Mormons do the electric slide one more time. The girl mentioned in the previous post showed up late, cool. And then proceeded to say, “I actually hadn’t heard most of the stuff you guys put on the list. You’re actually doing a really good job.”
YEA. THAT’S BECAUSE WE DANCE TO MUSIC THAT IS GOOD.
IN. YOUR. FACE.
Below is the playlist we used. Check it out. Next time you’re in town we can dance to the exact same playlist. Fun? I know.

You played all the nerdy songs from the ’80s and few of the good ones.

Glad you stuck to your guns…just the words “Boot scootin” made me throw up a bit.
I have to ask we’re the people who approved the list a lot older?
and if so did they ever stop to think that the reason people left the dances earlier before was because the music sucked? and this time it would’t suck so people would dance?
I could dance for hours on a loop of Take on Me.

when i was at ricks, they banned “Loveshack” because of the line, “wearing next to nothin’ ’cause it’s hot as an oven.”
ah, fun.

Phew. You played Take On Me. Leave it to my GBoo to save the day. Also? Postal Service is soooo not dancing music. Just FYI.

Awesome list! I have a video of my son dancing to David Bowie’s Let’s Dance, in fact I’m about this close to getting it on my blog.

Incredible playlist! I’ll have to look up some of those tunes and see if I have them in my library yet. (Although I do agree that they’re not all dancing tunes.)
Oh, and for some reason, I always thought that only Ohio Mormons went by Mormon Standard Time. Back when I was still a churchin’ lass, one of our bishoprics worked hard to break us of it, to no avail. Then I had the same experience when I went off to college — again, in Ohio. Good to know that Mormon Standard Time transcends state lines.
