I just checked my email and received this from my Mom.
Hey George, 21 years ago tonight, Robert, Tim and Dad came to the hospital in Maysville to see you. I remember they were all so excited. Tim and Robert had been soooooo excited for weeks waiting for you to come bouncing into the world. Sunday, the 21st of January, we woke up to snow, snow, and more snow. We lived down the lane from the highway in a big old “Gone With the Wind” type house close to Germantown, KY. Unfortunately the lane had disappeared under a huge blanket of snow. With the wind howling outside the wind chill was 60 degrees below zero. I was so afraid that you might decide to come that Sunday that I just layed in the bed all day. I didn’t know how we could drive to the doctor as the road had disappeared under the snow banks. It was drifted several feet in the lane. Luckily you were not ready to enter mortality yet!!! The next morning Dad drove the van across the snow covered field beside the house and made it to Maysville. He went to Carnation Can, where he worked and put a 200 lb. motor in the back of the van for extra weight to keep the van from sliding in the snow. Then he came back home to get me, Robert and Tim. I had a doctor’s appointment. They sent me on to the hospital. However, you didn’t come on Monday either. They said I could go home and I said no way, I would just stay at the hospital overnight. The next morning you began your treck into the world. William and Lola came to the hospital and were in the labor room with me and Danny for a while. Doctor Wilson would come in periodically to check on your progress. Once before he came in
William let a big stinker, and then the dr. came in and I was sure he thought it was me!!! I was so mad at William. A little after noon, you were born. All in the delivery room were amazed at you, 10 lb. 10 oz. 23 inches long!!!! You almost slipped out of the Dr.’s hands. And one of the nurses said, “Why Mrs. Boone you will have to put 6 mo. clothes on this baby to take him home. For the next few days people were looking in my room to see the Mom who gave birth to handsome Baby George!!!! When we left the hospital, not many people were in town because of the weather, but I just wanted to say to anyone, “Hey, come and look at my cute baby!” We went home to see Robert, Tim, and Granny Boone. They were so excited. We have cute pictures of them holding you. Dad had cooked Chinese food. Everyone loved you from the beginning! Thanks for being you!! And thanks for being so thoughtful with your Christmas gifts to everyone this year! Love, Mom
