I ended up not going to the Championship game of the Global Games Tourny last night because Team USA was playing Team Texas, which is a bunch of high school kids. I didn’t want to pay 10 dollars to see Team USA win by 30 and Team Texas shoot 29 percent.
All in all, the two games I went to were pretty decent, the Friday game being far more entertaining than the Thursday game, due to a few reasons. The 2 refs on Friday were both Foreign and unlike the 1 foreign ref on Thursday, they didn’t not call 25 travels and 78 fouls during the game. They let them play a little more and it added for a nice finish, USA ended up winning by 4 after being down by about 15 points after the first quarter.
A few observations from the games:
Even though JJ Reddick may be the best shooter EVER in college basketball, I have to wonder why people don’t talking more about Justin Gray’s shooting ability. He can create his own shot better than JJ, and when the man is hot, he is on fire. He had once stretch where he hit about 3 or 4 threes in a row.
Why do all of OU’s basketball players look like they’ve just been let out on parole? I was waiting for Taj Gray to punch one of Slovenia’s players in the face the whole game, it didn’t happen though. Which is somewhat of a shame, it would have made the game more interesting.
Nick Fazekas is my new favorite College Basketball player other than anyone on UK, he’s so tall and lanky with a smooth jump shot, there is no way he won’t be compared to Dirk Nowitzki when he finally goes to the NBA, but I think he plays a little different than Dirk.
Do you think Rudy Gay hates playing with Marcus Williams? I mean, if he has an inch of day light he’s throwing up a shot, and he seemed to be too indecisive and somewhat of a turnover machine at times. If I was the best player in college basketball I’d demand the ball a little more. But I’m not.
All the things you’ve heard about Glen Davis? They’re true. The Guy is HUGE! If he played Tight End for LSU last year I think they would have been ranked number one in the nation. His calves are as big as everyone else’s heads. I’ll enjoy watching this guy for the next few years, he seems to always have a smile on his face and is a damn hard worker.
I saved the best for last, obviously. I thought Rondo looked great in the tourny, he did a good job leading the team and distributing the ball. His shot looks better and it actually doesn’t take him 3 seconds to get a shot off beyond 15 feet anymore. He seemed to be more comfortable driving and dishing. I’m definitely excited for next year.
